20130422-083829.jpg… The massacre continues. It looks like my index finger is no longer bothering keeping my pretences with this Shellac manicure and is taking care of the removal business on its own. May need to go into a salon to get this taken care of sooner than I thought. Also my coworker who got her nails done at the same time tells me the shellac on one of her toenails completely fell off. Hahaha

A couple days ago, I got my first Shellac manicure & pedicure at Pampered & Polished Spa in Vancouver. I was using a Groupon that was going to expire in a couple days so I honestly wasn’t expecting much.

I was only vaguely aware of what a Shellac manicure was, how they stayed on forever, etc. But I never really gave it much though as I love changing out my nail colour every week.

Anyway, I got it done. I was surprised how quickly my nails were dry, no waiting around for 30 mins afterwards and being told to “be very careful.” After walking out of the spa and checking out my nails, I was surprised at the results:

I didn’t realize that the polish was going to be so thick on my nails. I’m not really a fan of the texture which feels almost gummy? (Not sure if this is how all Shellac manicures are supposed to be, but from what I read online, it may be?)

I have to say, I was disappointed as well by the quality of the work. I know the ladies there were very accommodating by letting me make an appointment after hours. And I was using a Groupon so they weren’t really making any money. However, I found the rushed job was just so poor. The polish ended up past my cuticles as well as pooling at the sides of my nails. And my toe nails, I had cut them short so they decided to paint onto my skin to fake a bigger nail? WTF? It looks fab from far away but gross up close.

Oh and my manicure started to peel & chip by the next day.

And apparently you can’t use any old nail polish remover to take the stuff off too. (And definitely don’t peel it off) So I gotta march my butt down to another salon just to take care of the problem. Boo.

Anyway, I think I’ll leave this manicure as it for a couple weeks until the regrowth starts to piss me off and then I gotta spend some cash to get my nails fixed. Ah well, this is why I prefer to do my nails at home.
